(972) 371-0616 — Thrive Dental & Orthodontics Frisco
We’re on the corner of Hillcrest and Rolater Road in east Frisco. We reserve same-day appointments specifically for dental emergencies. Call and we will get you in as fast as possible.
When in doubt — call. Our team will help you assess your situation over the phone and determine how quickly you need to be seen. Here’s a general guide:
Call immediately — same-day care needed:
Urgent but can typically wait a day or two:
The rule: if you’re in significant pain, have visible swelling, or have a knocked-out tooth — don’t wait. Call (972) 371-0616 right now.
When a dental emergency strikes, you need a team that can do more than manage your pain temporarily and send you home. At our Frisco location, we treat the problem — not just the symptoms.
Most urgent care centers and many dental offices can only offer temporary relief for a dental emergency — a prescription for antibiotics and pain medication and instructions to follow up later. That delays real resolution and keeps patients in pain longer than necessary.
At Thrive Frisco, we perform same-day emergency root canals and tooth extractions in-house. If your toothache is caused by pulp infection, we can diagnose and treat it at the same appointment. If a tooth genuinely can’t be saved, we remove it the same day and begin the conversation about replacement options before you leave. We don’t send patients home with a temporary fix when we can resolve the problem now.
For dental infections requiring antibiotic treatment, our Frisco dentists prescribe what’s clinically indicated at your emergency appointment. Pain medication is also managed appropriately for significant post-procedure discomfort. You leave with what you need — not a referral to come back later.
When you have a prescription in hand after an emergency appointment, the last thing you want is a long drive and an uncertain wait at a pharmacy. The Walgreens nearest our Frisco office is just minutes away. Most patients have their prescription filled before they’re even home. For patients dealing with pain or infection, that speed matters.
We know a dental emergency is stressful. Once you’re in the chair and numbed, Netflix on two TVs in the treatment room — one above you, one at eye level — lets you focus on something other than what’s happening in your mouth. Patients who come in tense and anxious consistently tell us the combination of thorough anesthetic and a familiar show on screen made the experience far more manageable than they expected.
Our large, comfortable Frisco waiting area has coffee, water, and drinks, a TV, and lounge-style seating. If family members come with you during an emergency, they have a genuinely comfortable space to wait rather than a sterile row of chairs under fluorescent lighting. Our kids’ lounge with a giant TV, PlayStation, and Nintendo Wii keeps children settled while you’re being treated.
Severe toothache or abscess:
Rinse with warm salt water. Take ibuprofen as directed — it addresses both pain and inflammation. Apply a cold compress to the outside of your cheek for 15–20 minutes at a time. Do not apply heat. Call us while you’re doing this and we’ll have your appointment ready when you arrive.
Knocked-out permanent tooth:
Pick up the tooth by the crown — never touch the root. If dirty, rinse gently with clean water. If possible, gently reinsert it into the socket and hold it there. If reinsertion isn’t possible, keep it moist — in milk, saline, or inside your cheek between the gum and cheek. Call us immediately and drive straight in. Every minute counts — a tooth reimplanted within 30 minutes has the best chance of survival.
Do not attempt to reinsert a knocked-out baby tooth. Call us for guidance.
Cracked or broken tooth:
Rinse gently with warm water. Apply a cold compress. Save any large fragments. Take over-the-counter pain medication. If sharp pain occurs when air touches the tooth, that’s a nerve exposure — call us now.
Dental abscess with facial swelling spreading toward eye, neck, or throat:
Go to an emergency room immediately — this is a potentially life-threatening spreading infection. Call us on the way and we’ll coordinate follow-up dental care once you’re medically stable.
Lost crown or filling:
Re-cement temporarily using Dentemp or similar pharmacy dental cement. Do not use super glue. Avoid chewing on that side. Call us — if there’s significant sensitivity or pain, we’ll get you in same-day. If it’s manageable, book the next available appointment within a few days.
Emergency root canals. When infection has reached the pulp, a root canal relieves the pain and saves the tooth. We perform same-day emergency root canals in-house at our Frisco location for most cases. The procedure is far more comfortable than its reputation suggests — with modern anesthesia, most patients are surprised by how manageable it actually is.
Emergency tooth extractions. When a tooth is too severely infected or damaged to save, extraction removes the source of pain and prevents further spread. We perform emergency extractions in-house at Frisco, discuss replacement options at the same appointment, and can perform bone grafting at the time of extraction to protect the jaw for future restoration.
Abscess treatment. Drainage of the infection, antibiotic prescription as clinically indicated, and treatment of the underlying cause — root canal or extraction depending on whether the tooth can be saved.
Prescription pain relief and antibiotics. When clinically appropriate, our Frisco dentists prescribe at your emergency appointment. The nearby Walgreens means your prescription is filled quickly after you leave.
Re-cementing crowns and replacing lost fillings. Quick, same-day fixes for displaced restorations. Don’t leave a prepared tooth unprotected for more than a day or two.
Temporary crown placement. For broken teeth, a temporary crown restores structure and function the same day while a permanent crown is fabricated.
Sedation dentistry. For patients with significant dental anxiety or those facing more involved emergency procedures, sedation options are available to make the experience as comfortable as possible.
Dental infections are the most serious dental emergencies because of how they progress. An infection that starts in a tooth follows a predictable path if untreated — from the tooth to the surrounding bone, then to the soft tissues of the jaw and neck. A spreading infection can compromise the airway and become life-threatening.
Pain that comes and goes doesn’t mean the infection is resolving — it often means the nerve has died while the infection continues to spread silently through the bone.
Signs of a dental infection requiring urgent care:
At our Frisco office, we assess infections quickly, prescribe antibiotics when indicated, and perform definitive treatment — root canal or extraction — in the same visit when clinically appropriate. The nearby Walgreens means your antibiotic prescription is filled immediately.
Kids get hurt — and pediatric dental emergencies are often more frightening for parents than for the child. Our Frisco team handles children’s dental emergencies with extra care and a calm approach.
Knocked-out baby tooth: Do not reinsert — it can damage the developing permanent tooth underneath. Bring the tooth and come in. We assess whether intervention is needed.
Knocked-out permanent tooth in a child: Same protocol as adults — time is critical. Keep the tooth moist and get here as quickly as possible.
Broken tooth from a fall or sports: Bring any fragments you find. We assess the damage, treat appropriately, and make sure the child is comfortable throughout.
Toothache: Often a cavity that has reached the nerve. We treat the infection, relieve the pain, and explain next steps to parents clearly.
While your child is being seen, any siblings or family members who came along can wait in our large kids’ lounge with a giant TV, PlayStation, and Nintendo Wii.
Broken brackets, poking wires, lost aligners, and loose bands need prompt attention. While they rarely rise to the level of a medical emergency, they cause pain and can disrupt your treatment progress if left unaddressed.
For a poking wire, cover the end with orthodontic wax immediately. If it’s causing significant injury and wax isn’t controlling it, you can carefully clip the end with clean nail clippers as a temporary measure. For a broken bracket or loose band, call our emergency orthodontist line — we’ll get you in quickly for a repair.
If an Invisalign aligner is lost or damaged, revert to the previous set immediately and contact us — don’t leave your teeth without an aligner for more than a day or two.
Emergency dental costs vary depending on what treatment is needed. A re-cemented crown is a very different cost from an emergency root canal and crown. We discuss costs and options with you before beginning any treatment — no surprises.
We accept 18+ PPO dental insurance plans at our Frisco location. Our team verifies your benefits on the spot and tells you what’s covered before we proceed. For patients without insurance, our Healthy Smiles Discount Plan at $89/year provides discounted rates on emergency and restorative procedures — $49/year for each additional family member. In-house payment plans are available for larger treatment costs. Visit our insurance page for details.
Do not let cost concerns prevent you from seeking urgent dental care. An untreated dental infection becomes dramatically more dangerous and expensive the longer it’s left alone.
We reserve same-day appointments specifically for emergencies. Call us immediately at (972) 371-0616 and let us know you have an urgent situation — we prioritize emergency patients and will get you in as fast as our schedule allows, often within hours.
Yes — in most cases. We perform same-day emergency root canals in-house at our Frisco location for most cases. If you come in with a severe toothache caused by pulp infection, we can assess, diagnose, and treat it at the same appointment.
If antibiotics are clinically indicated — for an active infection, significant abscess, or conditions requiring antibiotic coverage — our Frisco dentists will prescribe them at your appointment. The nearby Walgreens means you can fill the prescription immediately.
We perform emergency extractions in-house at our Frisco location, including for wisdom teeth causing acute problems. We also discuss tooth replacement options at the same appointment so you leave with a clear plan.
The nearest Walgreens is just minutes from our office. Get directions to the Walgreens. For most patients, it’s the fastest option for filling a prescription after an appointment
If swelling is spreading toward the eye, throat, or neck — or if you have difficulty swallowing or breathing — go to an emergency room immediately. This is a spreading dental infection that requires medical management before dental treatment. Call us on the way so we can coordinate your follow-up dental care.
Yes. We see pediatric dental emergencies at our Frisco office with patience and a calm, reassuring approach. Kids in pain are our priority to see quickly, and our experience with anxious young patients means we take the time to make the experience as manageable as possible.
