Your general dentist is your most important healthcare partner. They’re the one who catches the cavity before it becomes a root canal, spots the early gum disease before it causes bone loss, and builds a relationship with you and your family that makes staying on top of your oral health feel easy instead of stressful.
At Thrive Dental & Orthodontics, we provide comprehensive general dentistry for patients of all ages across six Dallas-area locations. From your child’s first visit to routine adult care to complex restorative work — everything your family needs is available under one roof, with one trusted team.

A general dentist is your primary dental care provider — the equivalent of a primary care physician, but for your teeth and mouth. General dentistry covers the full spectrum of routine and preventive care, diagnosis, and a wide range of treatments.
At Thrive, our general dentistry team handles everything from twice-yearly cleanings and exams to dental crowns, root canals, tooth extractions, gum disease treatment, and emergency dental care. We also work closely with our in-house orthodontic team and specialists so your overall care is coordinated and seamless.
The American Dental Association recommends dental visits every six months for most patients. These visits are not optional maintenance — they’re how small problems get caught before they become expensive, painful ones.
You might be surprised to learn all we do as general dentists at Thrive Dental. Here is an overview of the general dental services we offer:
The foundation of everything. At your routine cleaning and exam, our hygienist removes plaque and tartar buildup that no amount of home brushing can address, polishes your teeth, and performs a careful exam of every tooth surface. Your dentist then evaluates your bite, checks for decay, reviews X-rays, and examines your gum health.
Most people don’t realize that a dental checkup also includes screening for oral cancer, jaw problems, and signs of systemic conditions like diabetes that often present first in the mouth. It’s a comprehensive health visit, not just a polish.
We recommend most patients come in every six months. Patients with higher risk factors — active gum disease, diabetes, a history of frequent cavities, or orthodontic appliances — may benefit from more frequent visits.
When gum disease has progressed beyond what a standard cleaning can address, a deep dental cleaning — also called scaling and root planing — is needed. This procedure removes tartar and bacterial deposits from below the gumline and smooths the root surfaces so gum tissue can reattach properly.
Early-stage gum disease (gingivitis) is reversible. Left untreated, it progresses to periodontitis, which causes irreversible bone loss and is one of the leading causes of tooth loss in adults. Catching and treating it early with a deep cleaning can stop that progression.
A dental crown is a custom cap placed over a damaged, decayed, or structurally compromised tooth to restore its shape, strength, and appearance. We use tooth-colored porcelain crowns that blend naturally with surrounding teeth and are virtually indistinguishable from natural enamel.
Crowns are needed when a tooth has too much decay for a filling to work, after a root canal, for a cracked tooth, or to restore a broken tooth. With proper care, a well-placed crown lasts 10–15 years or more.
When decay is caught early, a composite filling is a quick, comfortable solution. We use tooth-colored resin material that matches your natural tooth color — no silver amalgam. The procedure preserves more healthy tooth structure than traditional fillings and looks completely natural.
Root canals have an undeserved reputation. A root canal is a straightforward procedure that removes infected or inflamed pulp from inside the tooth, relieves the pain caused by the infection, and saves a tooth that would otherwise need extraction. With modern techniques and anesthesia, most patients are surprised by how comfortable the procedure actually is.
The alternative to a root canal is typically extraction — which then creates the need for a dental implant, bridge, or partial denture to fill the gap. Saving the natural tooth is almost always the better long-term outcome.
A dental bridge replaces one or more missing teeth using adjacent teeth as anchors. It’s a fixed, non-removable restoration that fills the gap, restores bite function, and prevents neighboring teeth from drifting into the empty space. Bridges are a great option when implants aren’t feasible due to bone loss or other factors.
Periodontal therapy encompasses a range of treatments for gum disease — from deep cleanings for early-stage disease to more advanced care for patients with significant attachment loss. Gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults and has been linked to systemic conditions including heart disease, diabetes, and stroke.
We monitor gum health at every visit and intervene early when we see the first signs of inflammation or recession. Prevention and early treatment are far more effective — and less expensive — than treating advanced periodontal disease.
Oral cancer screenings are included as part of every comprehensive exam at Thrive. Oral cancer is highly treatable when caught early — and highly dangerous when it’s not. Your dentist examines the soft tissues of your mouth, throat, and neck for any signs of abnormality that warrant further evaluation. It takes two minutes and could save your life
Dental emergencies don’t happen on schedule. Whether it’s a knocked-out tooth, severe toothache, broken crown, or dental abscess, our emergency dental team sees urgent cases as quickly as possible — often same day. Call us immediately and we’ll get you in.
One of the things that sets Thrive apart is that we genuinely are a one-stop practice for your entire family. We see patients from six months old through adulthood — which means you can bring the whole family to one location, with one team that knows everyone’s history.
Our children’s dentistry team creates a warm, fun environment specifically designed to make kids feel welcome and build positive associations with dental care early. Our preventive dentistry program — including sealants and fluoride treatments — protects kids’ teeth during the highest-risk years. And when the time comes for orthodontics, our in-house team handles braces and Invisalign without a referral.
For adults, we handle everything from routine maintenance to cosmetic dentistry, dental implants, and restorative work. Whatever stage of life you’re in, Thrive has you covered.
We see it constantly: patients who skip their routine visits for a few years and come back needing thousands of dollars of treatment for problems that were completely preventable. A cavity caught at six months is a 30-minute appointment and a simple filling. Left alone for two years it becomes a crown — or a root canal and crown. Left alone longer it may become an extraction and an implant.
Regular care is not just about cleaner teeth. It’s about catching small things early, before they become expensive emergencies. The cost of two cleanings per year is almost always less than the cost of a single crown. And no insurance plan has a lifetime limit on routine care.
We send reminders when it’s time for your next appointment, accept most major dental insurance plans, and offer flexible payment options for patients without coverage. There’s no good reason to put off your care.
Most patients should visit every six months. Some patients — those with active gum disease, diabetes, frequent cavities, or orthodontic appliances — benefit from visits every three to four months. Your dentist will recommend the right frequency for your individual situation.
A typical visit includes a professional cleaning by a hygienist to remove plaque and tartar, a comprehensive exam by your dentist, digital X-rays (at appropriate intervals), and screening for oral cancer, gum disease, and any developing issues. Your dentist will review findings with you and discuss any recommended treatment.
Yes — we accept most major dental insurance plans. Our front desk team will verify your benefits before your appointment so you know exactly what to expect. For patients without insurance, we offer a dental discount plan that provides significant savings on all services. Visit our insurance page for details
A general dentist provides comprehensive primary dental care — prevention, diagnosis, and a wide range of treatments. Specialists like orthodontists, oral surgeons, endodontists, and periodontists focus on specific areas. At Thrive, we have both general dentists and an in-house orthodontic team, which means most of your care stays under one roof. When specialist care is needed beyond what we offer, we coordinate referrals
We see this all the time — no judgment. Many people avoid the dentist out of anxiety, cost concerns, or simply losing the habit. Whatever the reason, we’re glad you’re coming back. We’ll do a comprehensive exam to assess where things stand, prioritize any immediate concerns, and build a plan to get your oral health back on track at a pace that works for you.
Absolutely. Dental anxiety is extremely common and we take it seriously. Please let us know when you call or book that you have anxiety — we’ll set aside extra time, explain every step before we do it, and work at your pace. For patients with significant anxiety, we can discuss additional comfort options.
Healthy teeth don’t happen by accident. They’re the result of consistent professional care, good home habits, and a dental team you trust enough to actually show up for. We’d like to be that team for you and your family.
