Most people don’t look forward to dental cleanings. At Thrive Dental & Orthodontics in Frisco, patients consistently tell us their experience here is different — and they actually keep their six-month appointments because of it.
Our hygienists are thorough and unhurried. Netflix plays on two TVs in every treatment room so you have something to watch during your appointment. Our large, comfortable lobby has coffee, water, and drinks available while you wait. And at the end of every appointment our front desk team reviews your insurance with you — what was covered today, what’s left in your annual maximum, and what you should schedule before your benefits expire.
We’re on the corner of Hillcrest and Rolater Road in east Frisco, near Lebanon High School and the Collin College Frisco campus. Same-day cleaning appointments are available when our schedule allows — book online or call (972) 371-0616.
Plaque begins hardening into tartar within 24–72 hours of forming. Once calcified, it cannot be removed by brushing or flossing — only a professional scaler removes it. Tartar left in place along and beneath the gumline is the primary driver of gum disease — the leading cause of tooth loss in adults — and feeds the bacteria responsible for accelerating cavities.
Two professional cleanings per year break that cycle. And the math on skipping them is brutal: a cavity caught at a routine cleaning is a filling. Left alone for a year it may become a crown. Left longer it may require a root canal and crown. The two cleanings you do every year are almost always less expensive than the single restorative procedure you’ll eventually need if you skip them.
Beyond tartar removal, professional cleanings polish away surface staining from coffee, tea, and wine — leaving your teeth noticeably brighter. And all new Thrive Frisco patients receive complimentary custom whitening trays to take the brightness further at home.
At our Frisco office we schedule appointments with enough time for our hygienists to do the job properly. That means checking in with you throughout the appointment, spending extra time in areas with significant buildup, explaining what they’re finding in plain language, and answering your questions without watching the clock.
A rushed cleaning misses things. Our hygienists don’t rush. Patients who have been to offices where they felt processed rather than cared for consistently notice the difference at Thrive Frisco.
Every operatory at our Frisco location has two TVs — one directly above the chair and one at eye level — with Netflix available during your appointment. Put on something you’ve been meaning to watch. A cleaning appointment runs 45–60 minutes — enough time to get through an episode and leave feeling like the time was well spent rather than endured.
Our Frisco waiting area is genuinely comfortable — coffee, water, and drinks available, a large TV playing shows, and lounge-style seating with couches and comfortable areas to settle into. Nothing about it feels like a typical dental waiting room. For families, our kids’ lounge has a giant TV and two gaming consoles — a PlayStation and a Nintendo Wii — so children are genuinely entertained rather than restless.
Most dental patients have no idea how much of their annual maximum they’ve used, whether they’ve met their deductible, or what treatment they could schedule before their benefits reset on January 1st. We fix that. Before you leave every appointment at our Frisco office, our front desk team walks you through your benefits — what was covered today, what’s remaining, and whether scheduling any needed treatment before year-end makes sense for your situation. It’s information that’s yours by right, and most patients have never had this conversation at a dental office before.
New to Frisco? Haven’t been in a while? Need to get back on track? We offer same-day appointments including same-day cleanings when our hygienist schedule allows. Call us directly for the fastest answer on same-day availability — online booking shows real-time slots but calling gives you the most current picture.
Your hygienist begins with a visual assessment of your teeth and gum tissue — checking for signs of inflammation, recession, or anything that needs the dentist’s attention. Digital X-rays are taken at clinically appropriate intervals using our low-radiation digital imaging system. Your hygienist reviews findings with you before beginning cleaning.
Using a scaler, your hygienist carefully removes plaque and calcified tartar from every tooth surface — including along and just below the gumline. Areas with more significant buildup get more time. This is the most clinically important step and the one that prevents gum disease.
A high-powered brush with professional polishing paste removes residual stains from tooth surfaces, leaving your teeth noticeably smoother and cleaner. The smoother surface also makes it slightly harder for new plaque to adhere immediately after the appointment.
Your hygienist flosses between every tooth — reaching areas your home routine may miss and checking the tightness of contacts between teeth and the health of interproximal gum tissue.
A concentrated fluoride treatment is applied — typically a varnish that takes about a minute — providing months of enamel strengthening protection. One of the most cost-effective preventive dentistry tools available for both children and adults.
Your dentist reviews the hygienist’s findings, performs their own comprehensive exam of every tooth surface, assesses your bite and jaw, and performs an oral cancer screening. Any concerns are discussed with you clearly, with options presented before any treatment is scheduled.
Before you leave, your benefits are reviewed — what was covered today, remaining annual maximum, deductible status, and year-end planning if relevant.
The standard preventive cleaning for patients with healthy gums and good oral hygiene. This is the twice-yearly cleaning most patients need — tartar removal, polishing, flossing, fluoride, and exam. Covered at 80–100% by most dental insurance plans.
When gum disease has progressed beyond what a standard cleaning can address, a deep dental cleaning removes bacterial deposits from below the gumline down to the tooth roots. Performed in sections with local anesthetic, followed by a healing period. Patients with active periodontal disease typically follow up with maintenance cleanings every three to four months.
For patients who have previously been treated for gum disease, periodontal maintenance cleanings every three to four months keep disease from recurring. More thorough than standard cleanings and focused on the areas where disease was previously active.
We recommend children’s dental cleanings beginning at the first birthday or within six months of the first tooth erupting. According to the CDC, more than half of children between ages 6 and 8 have had cavities in their baby teeth. Early, consistent cleanings catch developing decay before it spreads and allow us to apply dental sealants at the most vulnerable windows.
At Frisco, children’s cleaning appointments follow the same unhurried approach as adult visits — adapted for younger patients with shorter attention spans. Netflix kids’ shows play in the treatment room during their appointment. Every child leaves with a free toy. And siblings waiting in our kids’ lounge have a giant TV, PlayStation, and Nintendo Wii keeping them genuinely entertained.
The American Dental Association recommends professional cleanings every six months for most patients. Some patients benefit from more frequent visits based on individual risk factors:
Talk to your dentist at your next visit about the right frequency for your situation.
Preventive care — cleanings, exams, X-rays — is covered at the highest tier by most dental insurance plans, typically 80–100% with little or no deductible required. Your twice-yearly cleanings are among the most valuable benefits your plan provides.
A few things worth knowing to get maximum value from your benefits:
Use both cleanings every year. Even if you feel fine in July after a January cleaning, the second visit is covered and serves a real clinical purpose. Six months is enough time for new decay to develop and gum inflammation to begin.
Schedule before December 31st. Most plans reset January 1st. Unused annual maximum disappears — it doesn’t roll over. If you’ve met your deductible and haven’t used all your benefits, end-of-year is the time to schedule any needed restorative work.
Let us review your benefits. Our Frisco front desk team does this automatically at every appointment. If you want to check your current benefit status at any point, just ask.
For patients without insurance, our Healthy Smiles Discount Plan provides discounted rates on cleanings and all other dental services for $89/year — $49/year for each additional family member. Visit our insurance page for the complete carrier list.
We do our best to accommodate same-day cleaning requests when hygienist availability allows. Call us directly at (972) 371-0616 for the fastest answer — online booking shows current availability but calling gives you the most up-to-date picture.
A routine cleaning and exam typically takes 45–60 minutes for adults. Children’s appointments are usually a bit shorter. If it’s been a while since your last visit or there’s significant buildup, allow extra time.
For patients with healthy gums, a cleaning is comfortable throughout. Patients with sensitive gums or significant tartar buildup may feel some pressure during scaling, particularly near the gumline. If you’re anxious or have sensitivity, let us know before we start — topical numbing gel is available and our hygienist can adjust their approach.
Not at all. We see patients returning after long gaps regularly and our approach is always the same — assess where things stand, prioritize what needs attention, and build a realistic plan to get your oral health back on track. The only wrong move is not coming in.
A routine prophylaxis cleaning removes plaque and tartar from above and just below the gumline in patients with healthy gums. A deep cleaning extends significantly below the gumline to treat active gum disease — it requires local anesthetic and is a more involved procedure. Your hygienist will measure gum pocket depths at your appointment and recommend the appropriate type.
Yes — it’s standard at our Frisco office. Before you leave, our front desk team tells you what was covered today, what’s remaining in your annual maximum, and whether scheduling anything before year-end makes sense. Most patients find this genuinely useful and say they’ve never had a dental office do it before.
Your twice-yearly cleaning is the foundation everything else in your dental health is built on. At Thrive Frisco, it’s also a pretty good hour.
