Start before there’s a problem. Children who visit the dentist regularly from infancy build familiarity and comfort. Children who only come when something hurts associate dental visits with pain. The first visit by age one sets the tone for everything that follows.
Use positive, neutral language. Avoid words like “hurt,” “shot,” “drill,” or “pain” before appointments. Let our team introduce new tools and procedures in kid-friendly language — we have a whole vocabulary designed for this. Try: “the dentist is going to count your teeth” or “they’re going to use a special tickle brush.”
Don’t transfer your own anxiety. Kids are perceptive. If a parent is visibly nervous, the child picks up on it. A calm, matter-of-fact tone before appointments makes a real difference: “We’re going to the dentist today — they’ll clean your teeth and you’ll get to pick a toy at the end.”
Make brushing a consistent routine. Two minutes, twice a day, from the first tooth. We recommend professional dental cleanings and comprehensive exams every six months starting from the first birthday. At each visit our hygienists remove plaque and tartar buildup, polish teeth, take age-appropriate X-rays at the right intervals, and evaluate gum health. Your dentist then performs a full exam including an oral cancer screening.

Baby teeth deserve proper treatment. They hold space for permanent teeth, support speech and chewing development, and affect a child’s confidence. Untreated cavities in baby teeth spread, cause pain, and can damage the permanent teeth developing beneath them.
Kids get hurt — knocked-out teeth, broken teeth from falls or sports, sudden toothaches, and dental infections. Our emergency dental team sees pediatric emergencies as quickly as possible, often same day. Call us immediately at the first sign of a dental emergency.
For a knocked-out permanent tooth, time is critical — reimplantation within 30 minutes gives the best chance of saving it. For a knocked-out baby tooth, do not attempt to reinsert it — call us and we’ll walk you through what to do.
