What Are Composite Resin Veneers?
When you are proud of your smile, you radiate joy and confidence. But according to studies, three in five Americans dislike their smile. At Thrive Dental & Orthodontics, our cosmetic dentists are passionate about helping patients attain their dream smiles with dental veneers.
Veneers are thin shells made of different materials shaped to fit on top of natural teeth. Composite resin veneers are one of several options to conceal chipped, stained, or misaligned teeth without compromising beauty or function.
Resin veneers also fix gaps and correct oddly shaped or crooked teeth.
The Resin Veneer Process
The composite veneer process begins with a Thrive Dental appointment to discuss your smile goals with our dentist. We will examine your teeth to see if they suit resin veneers. If so, your dentist begins prepping the tooth for treatment by reshaping the enamel to create a smooth surface to which the resin veneers can adhere.
Composite resin is a durable liquid applied to the teeth before being cured using a special light. It is then polished to improve the appearance of damaged teeth. Our dentists carefully select the perfect shade to ensure your veneer blends seamlessly with surrounding teeth for a flawless smile.
This process does not involve downtime. Once your resin veneers are applied, you can immediately return to normal activities.
Benefits of Composite Veneers
Composite resin veneers for teeth offer several benefits to enhance your smile.
- Resin veneers are easy to replace and repair compared to other materials.
- Resin veneers are easily reversed if you don’t like their look, unlike more permanent porcelain veneers.
- Resin veneers require minimal tooth preparation compared to porcelain veneers, preserving more of your natural teeth.
- Resin veneers do not require impressions, so you can experience immediate improvements in a single visit.
- Resin veneers generally cost less than porcelain veneers, making them a cost-effective way to improve cosmetic issues.
Although composite resin veneers can successfully treat a number of cosmetic concerns, they may not be ideal for every patient. If you have underlying dental issues, we can explore alternative treatments to achieve your desired results.
How Long Do Resin Veneer Results Last?
With proper care, composite resin veneers can last 5-10 years. During that time, we can touch up any chipped veneers and replace old composite bonding if there is excess wear and tear.
Taking Care of My Composite Veneers
It is possible to extend the life of your composite resin veneers with proper care and maintenance.
- Good oral hygiene: Brush at least twice daily with a soft-bristle brush and non-abrasive toothpaste. Floss daily.
- Avoid staining foods and drinks: Limit your consumption of coffee, tea, wine, berries, sports drinks, and tobacco as much as possible. Rinse your mouth or brush soon afterward to reduce staining.
- Protect your veneers: Avoid biting or chewing hard or sticky foods, and wear a mouthguard for sports (and sleeping if you grind your teeth.)
- Regular dental care: Keep up with routine dental exams and cleanings. This helps Thrive Dental dentists maintain and repair your veneers as needed.
