Are you missing most or all of your teeth? If so, you already know how bothersome it can make everyday activities like talking, eating, or even just smiling. That’s why we at Thrive Dental and Orthodontics offer dentures in all of our Texas dental locations. These artificial teeth allow you to gain your smiling and biting power back to what it used to be when you had all of your natural teeth.
What are dentures?
Dentures are prosthetic teeth attached to an acrylic base the color of gum tissue. They stay attached to your gums through a combination of natural suction and special denture adhesive. They allow you to get back most of the biting power you had when your natural teeth were still a part of your grin. Simply wear them throughout the day and place them in a glass of water or denture cleanser at night to clean them and give your gum tissue a chance to rest.
Your options for dentures
You might think of dentures as a full set of artificial teeth resting in a glass of water, but it turns out there are a few different types of dentures. These include:
If you are only missing a few teeth in a row, you could benefit from partial dentures. These artificial teeth are held in place with a wire that goes behind your remaining pearly whites. They are able to look and feel completely like your natural teeth, even more so than bridgework.
When most people picture dentures, full dentures are what they think of. These are used if you are missing all of your teeth on one or both arches. They replace an entire arch of teeth and are held in place with adhesive or natural suction.
Implant retained dentures
While traditional dentures might slip around when they don’t fit well, you don’t have to worry about that with implant-retained dentures. These are anchored in place with dental implants, which are firmly rooted in your jawbone to provide incredible stability that dentures alone often cannot deliver.
