A damaged or decayed tooth that needs a crown doesn’t have to mean a stressful dental experience. At Thrive Dental & Orthodontics in Sachse, we’ve built an office that makes even restorative appointments feel manageable — for you and for your family.
We’re located on the corner of Highway 78 and Woodbridge Parkway, directly across from Walmart. Get directions. Our Sachse team uses digital scanning technology and partners with high-quality dental labs to deliver crowns that fit precisely, look natural, and last. Book your appointment or call us at (469) 649-1101.
Getting a dental crown is already a multi-appointment process. The least we can do is make each visit as smooth and comfortable as possible. Here’s what you’ll notice when you come to our Sachse location:
Traditional crown procedures required biting into trays filled with thick putty impression material — uncomfortable, messy, and prone to inaccuracy. At our Sachse office, we use a 3D digital intraoral scanner to capture a precise model of your teeth in minutes. The scan feeds directly to our lab digitally, eliminating impression errors and speeding up the fabrication process. The result is a crown that fits more accurately right from delivery.
If you’ve had a crown made elsewhere with old-fashioned impressions and experienced fit issues, this difference is meaningful.
A crown is only as good as the lab that makes it. We work with trusted dental laboratories that use high-grade ceramic materials — the same quality you’d expect from a specialist office. Our Emax and Zirconia crowns are fabricated to precise specifications from your digital scan, giving you a restoration that matches the color and shape of your surrounding teeth and is built to last.
We don’t cut corners on materials. A crown done right the first time lasts significantly longer and saves you the cost and inconvenience of early replacement.
We know dental appointments aren’t on anyone’s list of favorite things. While you wait — or while your temporary crown is setting — help yourself to coffee or water in our waiting area. We’ve worked to create an environment that feels calm and welcoming rather than clinical.
If you’re bringing children along, they’re welcome. Our Sachse location has a dedicated kids’ playroom where little ones can watch their favorite shows or play video games while you’re in your appointment. No restless kids in the waiting room, no feeling rushed. Parents consistently tell us this changes the whole dynamic of getting dental care — when you’re not worried about your kids, you can actually focus on yourself.
A crown is recommended when a tooth has been significantly damaged, decayed, or weakened — but the root and surrounding bone are still healthy enough to support a restoration. Common reasons our Sachse patients receive crowns include:
If you’re not sure whether you need a crown, the best first step is a dental exam and X-rays. Sometimes what feels like it might need a crown only needs a filling — and sometimes the reverse. We’ll give you a clear, honest assessment.
Emax crowns are made from lithium disilicate ceramic — a high-strength material that also has exceptional translucency and light-reflecting properties that mimic natural tooth enamel. They’re our preferred crown for front teeth and visible areas of the smile where appearance matters most.
Emax crowns are strong enough for most patients, highly stain-resistant, and when properly matched to your surrounding teeth are virtually indistinguishable from natural enamel. With good care, per the American College of Prosthodontics, Emax crowns routinely last 10–15 years or longer.
Zirconia crowns are made from zirconium dioxide — one of the strongest ceramic materials used in dentistry. They’re our go-to choice for back teeth (molars and premolars) where chewing forces are highest and durability matters more than the ultra-fine aesthetics that front teeth require.
Zirconia is exceptionally fracture-resistant and holds up well to grinding and heavy bite forces. For patients who clench or grind their teeth, zirconia is almost always the better choice for posterior crown restorations. Zirconia crowns also tend to be gentler on opposing teeth than older metal-based crowns.
The choice between Emax and Zirconia comes down to where the tooth is located and what demands will be placed on it. Our Sachse dental team makes this recommendation based on your specific tooth, bite, and clinical situation — not a one-size-fits-all protocol. We’ll explain the recommendation clearly before you commit.
Your dentist examines the tooth, reviews X-rays, and confirms that a crown is the right treatment. If there’s any underlying decay or infection that needs to be addressed first — such as a root canal — that’s completed before the crown preparation begins.
The tooth is numbed with local anesthetic and gently reshaped to create the right foundation for the crown. We then use our digital intraoral scanner to capture a precise 3D model of the prepared tooth and surrounding teeth. This scan is sent electronically to our dental lab — no impressions, no physical molds, no waiting for putty to set.
While your permanent crown is being fabricated at the lab — typically one to two weeks — a temporary crown protects the prepared tooth. The temporary is made in-office and cemented with temporary adhesive. It looks and functions reasonably well but should be treated carefully — avoid sticky or hard foods and floss gently around it.
When your permanent crown arrives from the lab, you return for the final appointment. Your dentist removes the temporary, tries the permanent crown in to check fit, bite, and appearance, and makes any needed adjustments. Once everything is right, the crown is permanently cemented in place. The whole final appointment typically takes 30–45 minutes.
A brief sensitivity period of a few days after crown placement is normal as the tooth and surrounding tissue settle. If sensitivity persists beyond two weeks, or if the bite feels off, call us — we’ll adjust it promptly. Once the crown is seated properly, care is simple: brush, floss, and come in for your regular dental cleanings.
With proper care, a well-made crown placed on a healthy tooth typically lasts 10–15 years — and many last significantly longer. The main factors that affect longevity are:
Oral hygiene. The crown itself can’t decay, but the tooth structure at the margin — where the crown meets the gumline — can. Thorough brushing and flossing at the gumline is essential to prevent decay from developing underneath the crown.
Grinding and clenching. Bruxism places enormous force on crowns and is one of the leading causes of premature crown failure. If you grind your teeth at night, a custom night guard is one of the best investments you can make to protect your crowns and your natural teeth.
Dental visits. Your dentist checks crown integrity at every routine visit — looking for cracks, margin breakdown, or signs of decay underneath. Catching a crown issue early is always better than waiting until it fails.
What you eat. Crowns handle normal chewing very well, but consistently biting into very hard foods — ice, hard candy, popcorn kernels — shortens their lifespan.
The crowns we place at our Sachse office are made from high-quality materials by trusted labs. When you invest in a crown, we want it to last.
Most dental insurance plans classify crowns as major restorative care, typically covering 50–70% of the cost after your annual deductible has been met, subject to your plan’s annual maximum. We verify your specific benefits before your appointment so you know your estimated out-of-pocket before treatment begins.
We accept 18+ PPO dental insurance plans at our Sachse office. For patients without insurance, our Healthy Smiles Discount Plan offers a discounted crown rate of $959 (compared to the typical $1,343) — a saving of $384. For $89/year, the plan pays for itself on a single crown. Visit our insurance page for full details, or ask our front desk team when you call.
In-house payment plans are available for patients who need help spreading the cost over time.
Our Sachse office at 7900 Woodbridge Pkwy sits on the corner of Highway 78 and Woodbridge Parkway, directly across from Walmart — easy to find with plenty of parking. We serve patients from throughout the area including Sachse, Wylie, Murphy, Garland, and surrounding communities.
If you’re coming from the Cedar Creek or Parkwood Ranch neighborhoods, we’re just minutes away. If dental care has been on the back burner, our location makes it genuinely easy to fit in.

Typical crown cost in the Dallas area ranges from around $1,200–$1,500 depending on the crown type and complexity. Under our Healthy Smiles Discount Plan, ceramic crowns at our Sachse office are $959. Most dental insurance plans cover 50–70% of crown costs after the deductible. We give you a complete cost estimate before treatment begins.
Typically two. The first appointment covers tooth preparation and digital scanning, plus placement of the temporary crown. The second appointment — usually one to two weeks later — is for permanent crown delivery and cementation. Each appointment is straightforward and the second one is typically shorter.
The preparation appointment uses local anesthetic so the procedure itself is comfortable. Some patients experience sensitivity around the prepared tooth between appointments while wearing the temporary. The final cementation appointment is typically painless. Any post-procedure sensitivity generally resolves within a few days.
It’s uncommon but possible, particularly with temporary crowns. If your temporary or permanent crown comes off, call us immediately and bring the crown with you — in many cases it can be re-cemented. Don’t leave a prepared tooth uncovered for more than a day or two.
Signs that a crown may need attention include visible cracks or chips, pain when biting, sensitivity to temperature that wasn’t there before, a crown that feels loose or moves when you bite, or a dark line visible at the gumline. Your dentist checks crown integrity at every routine visit — which is one more reason not to skip your regular cleanings.
Our Sachse office works with an external dental lab for permanent crowns — this lets us use premium materials and maintain the quality standards our patients expect. Same-day in-office milled crowns sacrifice some of that quality control. We believe the two-appointment process with a high-quality lab delivers a better long-term outcome.
Not right away. Active gum disease needs to be treated before placing a crown — placing a crown over inflamed or receding gum tissue compromises the fit and longevity of the restoration. We’ll assess your gum health at your exam and address anything that needs attention before crown preparation begins.
A damaged tooth doesn’t have to stay that way. Our Sachse team is ready to assess your situation honestly and get you the restoration your tooth needs — with the technology, materials, and care to do it right.
