Dental emergencies don’t wait — and neither do we. At Thrive Dental & Orthodontics in North Dallas, we hold time in our schedule every day specifically for urgent dental situations. When you call with severe tooth pain, a broken tooth, or a dental abscess, we prioritize getting you in as fast as possible — in most cases the same day.
Call (214) 206-4996 the moment a dental emergency happens. Don’t wait it out hoping it resolves — dental infections spread, and conditions that are simple to treat today become significantly more complex and expensive with every passing day.
Is This a Dental Emergency?
When in doubt — call us. Here’s a quick guide:
Call immediately — same-day care needed:
Urgent but can typically wait a day or two:
The rule: significant pain, visible swelling, fever, or a knocked-out tooth — don’t wait. Call (214) 206-4996 right now.
Severe toothache or abscess:
Take ibuprofen as directed — it addresses both pain and inflammation. Rinse with warm salt water. Apply a cold compress to the outside of your cheek for 15–20 minutes at a time. Do not apply heat. Call us while you’re managing symptoms and we’ll have your appointment ready.
Knocked-out permanent tooth:
Pick up the tooth by the crown — never touch the root. Rinse gently if dirty. Reinsert into the socket if possible and hold there. If reinsertion isn’t possible, keep it moist — in milk, saline, or between your cheek and gum. Call us immediately and drive straight in. Every minute matters.
Do not reinsert a knocked-out baby tooth. Call us for guidance.
Cracked or broken tooth:
Rinse with warm water. Apply a cold compress. Save any fragments. Take over-the-counter pain medication. If sharp pain occurs when air touches the tooth, call us immediately — that’s likely nerve exposure.
Dental abscess with spreading facial swelling:
If swelling is moving toward your eye, throat, or neck — or if you have difficulty swallowing or breathing — go to an emergency room immediately. Call us on the way so we can coordinate follow-up dental care.
Lost crown or filling:
Use Dentemp or similar dental cement from a pharmacy. Avoid chewing on that side. Call for a same-day appointment if there’s significant pain; otherwise schedule within a few days.
Emergency root canals. When infection reaches the tooth pulp, a root canal relieves the pain and saves the tooth. We perform emergency root canals in-house at our North Dallas location for most cases — so you get definitive treatment at the same appointment, not a referral and a two-week wait. Your appointment takes place in a private operatory with multiple TVs so you can watch Netflix throughout — because even emergency appointments don’t have to feel miserable.
Emergency tooth extractions. When a tooth cannot be saved, extraction removes the source of pain and infection and prevents further spread. We perform emergency extractions in-house and discuss tooth replacement options — dental bridges, partial dentures — at the same appointment so you leave with a clear plan.
Abscess treatment. Drainage of the infection, antibiotic prescription as clinically indicated, and definitive treatment — root canal or extraction depending on whether the tooth can be saved.
Re-cementing crowns and replacing lost fillings. Quick same-day fixes for displaced restorations. Don’t leave a prepared tooth unprotected for more than a day or two.
Prescription pain relief and antibiotics. Prescribed at your emergency appointment when clinically appropriate. The nearest pharmacy is close to our Forest Lane office — your prescription is filled quickly without an extra trip across North Dallas.
Emergency orthodontic care. For broken brackets, poking wires, or lost aligners — call our emergency orthodontist line for same-day repairs when possible.
A dental infection that’s left untreated doesn’t stay contained to the tooth. It spreads to surrounding bone, then to the soft tissues of the jaw and neck. In serious cases a spreading infection can compromise the airway.
Pain that comes and goes doesn’t mean the infection is resolving — it often means the nerve has died while bacteria continue spreading silently.
Signs requiring urgent care:
Call (214) 206-4996 immediately if you have any of these symptoms.
Dental emergencies are stressful enough without a cold, clinical environment adding to the anxiety. Our North Dallas office is designed differently.
Our stunning chandelier lobby with complimentary coffee, tea, and water is available even during urgent visits — for patients waiting and for family members who come along. Every patient is seen in their own private operatory — no open bays, no sitting next to other patients. Multiple TVs in every treatment room with Netflix available mean you have something to watch throughout your appointment, even during procedures.
Once you’re fully numb, most patients tell us the experience was far more manageable than they feared. The private room and the TVs genuinely change how emergency dental visits feel.
Kids have dental emergencies too — knocked-out teeth from falls and sports, broken teeth, sudden toothaches. Our North Dallas dental team sees pediatric emergencies with extra care and a calm, reassuring approach.
Knocked-out baby tooth: Do not reinsert — bring the tooth and come in. We’ll assess whether any intervention is needed.
Knocked-out permanent tooth in a child: Same protocol as adults — time is critical. Keep the tooth moist and get here as fast as possible.
Toothache in a child: Often a cavity that has reached the nerve. We treat the infection, relieve the pain, and explain next steps to parents clearly and in plain language.
Our private operatories and multiple TVs in every treatment room help children feel genuinely calm during stressful emergency appointments — they can watch their favorite show from the moment they’re in the chair.
Emergency dental costs vary based on what treatment is needed — a re-cemented crown is very different from an emergency root canal. We discuss costs and options with you before beginning treatment at our North Dallas office. No surprises.
We accept 18+ PPO dental insurance plans and verify your benefits on the spot before proceeding. For patients without insurance, Cherry and CareCredit financing provide flexible monthly payment options with quick approval. Our Healthy Smiles Discount Plan at $89/year provides discounted rates on emergency and restorative procedures. Visit our insurance page for details.
Do not let cost concerns prevent you from seeking urgent dental care. An untreated dental infection becomes dramatically more dangerous and expensive with time.
